Pawnshop Prize – 03/02/12
The Electric Brew - A place for coffee and gathering in downtown Goshen, IN.
It's been a long time coming for Pawnshop Prize, a husband and wife duo who have living here in Goshen for the past 15 years. They started playing, writing, and recording music in their basement about 10 years ago, with the help of a few friends. “We write about what we know and have experienced: the good, the bad, and all the stuff in between. What we would like for people to get from our music is that we are all more alike then we think, and that relationships are everything,” says Trish DeVries, the vocalist of the duo. Her smooth vocals contrast with the many rhythms her husband, Jeff, who plays guitar and bass, comes up with, since he enjoys experimenting with different genres. “We love playing at coffeehouses like the Brew because they have such a great atmosphere of people hanging out together, enjoying the music, the coffee, and each other.”
Pawnshop Prize plays an acoustic and electric mix of pop and rock originals, with a few covers thrown in for good measure. They have played some of the area coffeehouses over the years, and have played venues like the Elkhart County 4-H Fair and Rhapsody in Green (under the name DHS). Their self-titled CD, which includes original acoustic and full-band songs they have recorded, is available on i-Tunes.
